Hydrogenation of aliphatic carbonyls and aromatic rings, especially bulky molecules. Ruthenium on alumina catalyst plays an important role for copper-free sonogashira coupling reactions. It is likewise a useful catalyst for the racemization of secondary alcohols.

Incompatible with oxidizing agents, alcohols and sulfur. Store in cool place. Keep the container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place.
